What do you do when a market reseacher calls you?

NOT TELEMARKETERS. But those people who are just conducting surveys, just get your opinion. I work for a market research company and am wondering why people have such a grudge against us. They are just doing their job. They don't know that they are calling at a bad time. They don't have much control over what time they call or how many times they call. They're not selling anything. And is it really nessasiary to tell them they should die?

What do you do when a market reseacher calls you?
I think in these times of identity theft, people are really scared of giving out personal information.
Reply:because my number is privait i do not appear in the fone book no will the operater give you my number.

so it angers me when they ring.

it is quite clear if i am not listed in the fone book i do not want these type of calls.

they never tell me where they get my number from which is out of order if you ask me, that is my privait number i have a right to know where they got it from.

i now a days do not talk to them but hang up... if they ring back i just rest the fone hand set down and let them talk to themselfs then check they have gone after ten minutes then hang my fone up.

kind regards x kitti x
Reply:Marketing people take their profession WAY too seriously. I have not known ANY marketing person....ever...in my life since I've been in the workforce that had any grip on reality or people.

They place value in the wrong places, they utilize poor, ill-conceived information, or the convolute good information themselves, and their surveys are inane and half-baked.

Personally I think those people have been given far, FAR more credit than they ever deserved. I worked closely with a couple sales and marketing folks for several years at my previous place of employment, and both of them were idiots.....they falsified information to customers and essentially lied just to get sales and the marketing guy was at least as bad. Not only did they rape and pillage any information and data they were given, they were too stupid to understand it.

So, at least for me, when sales and marketing dipsh!ts call me at home, on my time after I've put my tour of duty in to those toads I try and actually be polite.....but yanno what.....

....being polite isn't good enough. Being nice and telling them I'm busy or in the middle of something doesn't fly. No....they need to push and push and push. See, they're too stupid to take a polite "no thanks" and move on. Even they should be smart enough to understand it's a numbers game, but no....they and their massive egos want to SELL......they NEED to get that survey in your face.

So, I either set the phone down and let these geniuses prattle on and on while I go cut the grass or fly a kite until it finally dawn on them that no one's there, or I just tell them to fvck off.

Who needs it? How many people are actually truthful with a PHONE survey anyway? C'mon. The questions are often not applicable. The real answer is usually not among the choices anyway.

You have some guy selling water in paper cups in the desert. A marketing person will go back to the boss and say...."yeah they LOVE those little paper cups". Sales is looking for a way to recycle dogsh!t into paper cups.

That's why we can't stand your freaking surveys. It's not YOU...it's the sales/marketing concept that is inane...and the companies and the morons running them....and the fact they annoy the crap out of everyone.

Go work for a decent company.
Reply:I have answered lots of surveys on the phone. That last one I did is sending me a check for $100 - no lie. I have also answered surveys on line and been rewarded with being able to get magazine subscriptions for $2.00 for a full yr. Last year, I was probably getting 20 magazine subscription like that at one time. i just cancel them when it comes time to renew at their regular sub rate
Reply:If it's about product information, I tell them the truth ABOUT THE PRODUCT. If it's anything else, I lie my a.s.s. off, just for the fun of it.
Reply:no one wants to take precious time out of thier already hectic day to answer some questions from a stranger. whats in it for us? also, we dont trust you...we are afraid you will send our info along to another company and then we will be getting an onslaught of telemarketers calling.

no thanks.
Reply:i just ask them what their oppinion on the product is and if they don't give it to me, i tell them they should have one before asking me mine, and i respect the fact that its their job but sometimes we have jobs where we are hated by 99% of people. try being a security guard, i have to deal with people who don't like me face to face. at least you can hang up on them
