In market research, respondents of some cultures tend to give ratings around the "centre". What is it called?

I don't know but are you U.S. I am in the U.K. and do a lot of market research but have never heard of this

In market research, respondents of some cultures tend to give ratings around the "centre". What is it called?
Median, I think. Mean is where the results are added and then divided by the number of results. Median is centre weighted.
