Market research tips???

I want to set up this website business idea i have, it would involve a lot of work and money so I would need a great deal of market research to make sure it is even worth going for..

The area I live in is not really internet orientated so would therefore not provide me with the answers I need. Therefore, I need market research from a wider group of people, say, larger communities, cities etc.

What is the best way to reach these people and make sure I get a response?

Market research tips???
If you have some money to spend, you could go to a site like surveymonkey and create your own survey, and then locate a company such as eRewards or American Consumer Opinion and get bids for sample to use. There are many companies that have online panels for market research purposes. They can also do the work for you if you're willing to pay (i.e. you tell them your objectives and they'll write the survey, program, sample, and write up recommendations).

good luck!
Reply:If you're UK based your local Business Link will be able to give you some help on where to start with your research. They also run free days on setting up in business.

The Chamber of Commerce also has a lot of resources for doing research. I'm not sure whether you can get access to it without being a member but there's no harm in asking.

The British Libary also has an excellent business section for doing research.
Reply:Marketing research is a complicated subject. Basically you start with a clear decision problem. For example:

Where can I open my new store?

What flavor of ice cream should I introduce?

This will lead to specific research problems, such as:

To identify and evaluate prospective store locations and

To identify consumers preference of ice cream flavors

Then you determine what information you need to solve your research problems and then you move forward to collecting that information.

As you can see, this is a orthodox process and if you start of with the wrong questions, you research will be meaningless. I suggest you hire somebody or an agency to do your work. If you are on a tight budget, go to any university in your area and ask for help. Students and teachers at times help you out for cheap.
