What are some advantages and disadvantages of having a marketing research team for your business?

There are no disadvantages.

Every business, no matter how small, should have someone who's primary job, is to focus on marketing....keep in mind...marketing is a broad arena which even includes the processes used by the customer service dept. and the sales dept.

Marketing is not just about advertising...and NOT understanding that is the biggest downfall of business managers today.

All businesses exist to do one thing and one thing only..."get and keep customers". So it is wise to create policy, processes, and services that are conducive to helping that happen....anything that pulls the business in the opposite direction, is a waste of time and should be eliminated...and that includes personel.

Marketing is the art and science of "getting and keeping customers" ....therefore, it is always advantageous to have people around who know how to do that.

What are some advantages and disadvantages of having a marketing research team for your business?
Marketing research is an advantage of any business. It depends on the type of business you are in and how big is your firm. The amount of marketing research done depends on how much you need and how consumer oriented your business is. If you are targeting masses and providing a service or a product for personal usage then you would very much need research. IF you are in the business to business industry, selling to other firms, then you might not need to overtake large surveys but reaserach is still needed.

You will have to decide whther you want to form a team withing your company or outsource. Marketing research agency usually do a very good job and have the experience and expertise so most companies decide to go for them.

Having an inhouse research team might be expencive and take some time untill it starts beings fully operational. Depending on how much reasearch you need and how large is your marketing budget.

Getting inside team, make sure you get experienced professionals and good analysts.

Hope this helps.

Best luck to ya!
