If you've recently decided to begin investing, I would avoid specific stocks and invest in the spiders right now. The stock market in general (DOW, not NASDAQ or S%26amp;P) is ready for a leap in the next few months.
There are many other types of investments. Do not make the mistake of putting all of your eggs in one basket. Also, make certain you diversify even within one type of investment. If in the stock market, invest in one of each - tech, biomedical, industry, retailer, energy, etc ...
